Nova Scotia: social workers can issue sick notes
Per reform of the Medical Certificates for Employee Absence Act, social workers in Nova Scotia may now issues employee sick notes, along with nurses, dentists, pharmacists, and physiotherapists. The care being provided must be within their scope of practice and based on social work assessments, and they cannot issue a sick note for illnesses o diagnoses outside their scope. The NSCSW Standards of Practice have been updated accordingly.
