New research on healthcare licensing fees
New research from the Knee Center for the Study of Occupational Regulation's "Licensing Database Annual Snapshot" compares the costs of licensure across states. The dataset includes information on application and renewal fees for 36 healthcare professions (among other professions), as well as education, training, and exam requirements. Alicia Plemmons from the Knee Center notes that licensing fees vary greatly cross states, with some states "far out of alignment with competitive markets." She notes that such fees can be a huge hurdle for new graduates going into these medical fields, perhaps pushing them out of the professions at a time when the demand for healthcare services is increasing.
