Illinois bill expands who can perform abortions
A bill that passed the Illinis House 70-39 and the Senate 41-16 expands the scope of medical professionals who can perform abortions, allowing advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants to perform aspiration abortions. The bill also prevents the state from taking disciplinary action against a healthcare professional if they are disciplined by another state for providing abortion care that is legal in Illinois. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation will also be able to grant out-of-state physicians, PAs and APRNs a 2-year temporaty license to practice in Illinois.
