Alberta: continued calls for counsellor regulation

Despite the establishment of the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta in 2018 and the expected proclamation of a bill to create the College of Counselling Therapy of Alberta in summer 2021, counselling remains an unregulated practice in Alberta. Calls from the industry to move forward with regulation have increased after a recent case where a practitioner whose medical practice permit was canceled is now practicing as an addictions counsellor.
