Virginia: proposal to reduce cosmetology training hours
Virginia's Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation is proposing to reduce the number of training hours required for cosmetology licensure from 1,500 to 1,000. The goal of the proposal is to reduce burden on students and spur job growth in the industry. Concerns have been raised, however, about students not feeling adequatly prepared and not being able to transfer their license to other states. A switch to a 1,000-hour curriculum could eliminate reciprocity eligibility in 17 states.
