Hot Topics and Committee Updates from CLEAR's 2024 Midyear Meeting
CLEAR recently held its 2024 Midyear meeting in Tucson, Arizona and the event was a wonderful start to the new year! The Midyear meeting enabled CLEAR’s Board, committees, and subcommittees to meet in-person, discuss their progress thus far in the 2023-2024 membership year, and plan their future goals.
There were a number of relevant topics discussed in each meeting, and we have included a few committee updates below that may be of interest to our membership.

The Regulatory Agency Administration Committee discussed compassion in the complaints process, both for the complainant and the licensee. Recognizing that this is a stressful process for all parties involved, the committee talked about strategies to manage expectations and how to handle and moderate the emotions involved.

The Regulatory Agency Administration Committee also discussed the rapid change associated with AI and agreed to work on a set of governance and risk management principles for regulators.

The Exam Resources and Advisory Committee asked the CLEAR Board for permission to expand the scope of the internal publication, CLEAR Exam Review. The intent is to look at content that might lead to more engagement by regulators. The request was approved by the Board.

The Exam Resources and Advisory Committee also committed, via motion, to develop at least one podcast and up to two quick poll questions of particular relevance to regulators.

The DEI Committee reviewed a draft roadmap to guide CLEAR’s DEI-related work. The committee also engaged in an environmental scan, sharing news of initiatives and challenges faced by regulators, as they focus on this ‘forever work’.

The Education & Training Committee is in the process of developing three new training programs, including offerings for new regulatory staff, board chairs, and regulatory investigators and inspectors.

The Program Committee made preliminary selections for the 2024 Annual Educational Conference program! CLEAR will release more information on the keynote, plenary, and concurrent session speakers and poster authors in the coming weeks.
- The International Relations Committee began planning the program for the 2025 International Congress & Regulatory Research Day, along with additional CLEAR symposia, focusing on how CLEAR can increase engagement with stakeholders in host regions.
- The International Relations Committee also discussed the continuing developments in international workforce mobility, particularly how regulators are managing pressures to streamline and speed up processes while maintaining public protection.
