Pennsylvania: bill advances to exempt natural hair braiders

A bill to exempt the natural hair braiding industry from cosmetology and regulatory oversight has passed in the Pennsylvania House and moved to the Senate. Currently, braiders must have a full cosmetology license or an alternate permit that requires only 300 hours of braiding instruction. However, the 300-hour braiding program has limited availability and is only offered in English, which is not the first language of many braiders.
