California nurse fined for using title "doctor"
The District Attorney's Office for a California county has fined a nurse practitioner for using "Doctor" and the prefix "Dr." before her name, implying that she was a medical doctor. Even though she had earned a doctorate in nursing practice, the court ruled that "All forms of professional medical services advertising, including websites and social media accounts, must be free of deceptive or misleading information and must clearly identify the professional license held by the advertiser."
