BC doctors groups concerned about health regulation changes
Groups such as BC Liberals, BC Greens, and Doctors of BC have expressed concern about the quick passage of the Health Professions and Occupations Act in November 2022. The law brings about the consolidation of British Coumbia's 15 health regulatory colleges into six and the establishment of a new oversight body and an independent discipline tribunal. Doctors raised concern about the givernment appointing college board members rather than health professionals electing the board members. Concern was also raised about who is able to review people's medical records in the case of a complaint and about all complaints being made public even if they are unfounded. The groups also state that the bill was passed without sufficient chance for professionals to ask questions and be informed.
