Wisconsin to introduce bill blocking ban on conversion therapy
A rule established by the Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling and Social Work Examining Board in Wisconsin in 2020 bans licensed counselors, therapists and social workers from practicing conversion therapy, a controversial practice aimed at convincing LGBTQ people to change their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. The Joint Committee for the Review of Administrative Rules has voted to introduce a bill to suspend the rule. A question brought up during the hearing was wheether the board had the authority to write the rule. Approximatley 20 other states have a ban on conversion therapy in place.
