Alabama bill considers board consolidation
Senate Bill 156 under consideration in Alabama would create a central Occupational Licensing Division with an executive director of boards under the Secretary of State. Bill sponsors indicate that consolidation would streamline licensing and decrease costs to the individual boards. The bill would specify that licensing fees cannot be greater than the cost to administer the program. Alabama's Secretary of State has voiced concern about the Secretary of State Office not being "the right vehicle for its implementation."
