UK: survey of doctors investigated by GMC
A survey by the Medical Protection Society in the UK reveals that almost one in three doctors investigated by the General Medical Council had suicidal thoughts and 78% said the investigation damage their mental health. The MPS makes recommendtions to the GMC to use kinder, more empathic language in its communications with doctors under investigation. The Department of Health and Social Care is proposing reforms to allow the GMC "to close more cases that do not meet the threshold for regulatory action at initial assessment and deliver fitness to practise processes that are faster, fairer and less adversarial."
