UK: consultation on Anaesthesia Associates and Physician Associates Order
The UK government has opened a consultation "to seek views on the legislative provisions that will give the [General Medical Council] the necessary powers and duties to regulate AAs and PAs," including registering AAs and PAs; setting standards of practice, education and training, and continuing professional development requirements; approving education programs; and operating fitness to practice procedures. The regulatory framework for AAs and PAs is being rolled out as a first phase of a large-scale program of reform that will eventually lead to reform for all nine healthcare professional regulators related to governance and operating framework, education and training, registration, and firness to practice.
