Issues influencing Law Society of Ontario bencher elections

Several issues are at hand for the 2023 Law Society of Ontario bencher elections. One slate of candidates intends the focus of the LSO to be on its legislated function of competence and discipline. Some candidates, known as the FullStop slate, oppose the LSO statement of principles, which requires lawyers to promote diversity, equity and inclusion. Another slate of candidates is running on a platform related to systemic racism and access to justice issues and support for DEO measures. The Good Governance Coaliton is also aimed at returning good governance to the Convocation to curb the risk of losing the authority to self-regulate.
