UK: changes to nursing and midwifery pre-registration education programme standards
The UK's Nursing and Midwifery Council has approved changes to the pre-registration education programme standards. With the UK's exit from the European Union Directive, the Council has the authority to set its own standards for nursing and midwifery education. Changes include
- allowing innovative simulated practice learning methods for up to 600 of the 2,300 practice learning hours,
- allowing flexibility for practice learning experiences and placements beyond the EU Directove list, and
- eliminating the 12 years of general education requirement and allowing educational institutions flexibility to determine entry requirements.
