BC: formal request for counsellor and therapist regulation
The Federation of Associations for Counselling Therapists in BC has issued a formal application to British Columbia's Health Minister, asking him to declare regulation in the public interest. The Health Professions Act indicates that when an application is received, the health minister "must determine" if regulation is in the public interest. BC's health minister has indicated that regulation of counsellors and therapists is a top priority once the current reforms of the overall health profession regulation system are in place, but the FACTBC has urged that counsellor regulation should occur now to address growing mental health concerns for BC patients.
