Arizona Supreme Court petitioned to amend rules

The Goldwater Institute has filed two petitions with the Arizona Supreme Court. The first asks that the State Bar of Arizona eliminate "all bar activities that are unrelated to regulating the legal profession." Arizona lawyers are required to pay annual membership dues to the State Bar of Arizona, and concern is raised about art competitions, trivia nights, and other activities funded by the Bar through membership dues. The second petition asks that Arizona's universal licensing policy be applied to lawyers as well.
