Alabama bill considers sunset of massage therapy board
A review of the Alabama Massage Therapy Board by the Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts revealed unauthorized fees and non-compliance with state laws about open meetings and notification requirements. A bill is under consideration to sunset the board and create a new one, but changes to the bill versions, including the addition of a new Office of Professional and Occupational Licensing with two dozen boards consolidated under it, have led to continued debate between the House and Senate versions. If a bill does not pass in the final days of this legislative session, the massage board will sunset with no provision for a new board to continue the regulation of massage therapists.
