UK: calls to regulate NHS managers
Following the high-profile case of a UK neonatal nurse being convicted of murder and attempted murder of infant patients while on duty, calls are being made to regulate NHS managers. The case revealed that senior doctors' concerns about the nurse were ignored and not acted upon. A 2015 Freedom to Speak Up review found that NHS employees were often afraid of raising concerns for fear of being ignored or dismissed, leading to a Freedom to Speak Up policy and guidance. Calls are being renewed for hospital managers to be regulated and registered to practice like other health professionals.
