"Next Gen" bar exam to be launched

The National Conference of Bar Examiners will launch the Next Gen bar exam in July 2026. Rather than a focus on multiple-choice exam questions, the new exam will put more emphasis on skills such as legal research and writing, analysis, and client counseling. The current components of the Uniform Bar Exam will be discontinued after July 2027, but states will be able to decide when and if they want to adopt the Next Gen exam.
