AMA opposes pharmacist scope of practice expansion
The American Medical Association has again raised opposition to proposed federal legislation that would expand pharmacist scope of practice to include testing and treating for COVID-19, RSV, and influenza. The AMA cites that pharmacist training is not equivalent to the training of physicians. In their recent argument, they also note that scope of practice expansion would add responsibilities to an already overburdened workforce, citing research that 91% of community pharmacists rate their workload as high or excessively high such that everything cannot be done well.
