Utah has signed the first regulatory agreement on artificial intelligence in the U.S., partnering with ElizaChat, a company developing an AI app to support teen mental health. Announced by Utah’s Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy (OAIP), the agreement outlines safety protocols, including connecting users to licensed therapists when needed and requirements when conversations in the app fall under the “practice of mental health therapy.” This collaboration aims to balance innovation with consumer protection, reflecting the state's commitment under the 2024 Artificial Intelligence Policy Act to responsibly regulate AI technology while fostering its growth.
