UK: independent review of NMC culture

The Nursing and Midwifery Council in the UK commissioned an independent review of its organizational culture, with over 1,200 NMC colleagues and fitness-to-practice panel members sharing their experiences. The report revealed racism, discrimination, and bullying experienced by those working for the NMC. The NC has issued an apology and accepted all of the report's recommendations. The NMC is expanding resources for its safeguarding team and establishing a safeguarding hub to provide advice to staff working in fitness-to-practice, as well as changes in the FtP process to facilitate more timely decisions. The NMC is also putting in place clearer guidance on raising concerns about sexual misconduct and other forms of abuse both within and outside the work setting.
