ABA approves alternate licensure pathways
The American Bar Association Section of Legal Education and Admission to the Bar has approved a new policy to allow states to use alternate pathways to attorney licensure other than the bar exam. The change follows the recommendation of a task force on lawyer licensure, urging jurisdictions to create assessments that enable portability and increase access to justice and diversity in the profession. Emphasis was also given to evaluating graduates "across the range of skills and knowledge necessary for competent practice."
