International Mobility - Reducing barriers and improving ethics

The first part of this presentation will look at why health and social care professionals are migrating and will discuss the regulatory barriers faced by them. The presentation will focus on initiatives put in place to reduce barriers to mobility and entry to the workforce by CORU, Ireland’s multi-professional Health and Social Care regulator. We will discuss the outcomes of initiatives implemented by the Recognition of International Qualifications Department (CORU’s internal credentialing and assessment function) and the Registration Department and will examine whether or not barriers to mobility and entry to the workforce have been reduced as a result of their implementation.
The second part of this presentation will focus on the ethics surrounding professional mobility. We will consider the positives and negatives of mobility, the impact of mobility for both home and host countries, and the great importance of ethics in international mobility. We will finish by discussing a new initiative aimed at raising awareness around and improving the ethics of international mobility for recruiters and employers.
