Law Society of Ontario funds research into equity

At the request of the Equity and Indigenous Affairs Committee, the Law Society of Ontario has approved $250,000 in funding for research to inform the Law Society's equity work. The goal is to have research reports by summer 2025 in order to bring forward new initiatives related to "equity and reconciliation in a post-pandemic legal system." Suggested research topics include

  •  Sexual harassment and the retention of women leaders in the legal profession
  • The retention and advancement of lawyers from Indigenous communities who are racialized or from other equity-seeking groups
  • Remote work, benefits and drawbacks
  • Linguistic rights
  • Disability in the legal professions
  • Diversity in the paralegal field
  • The status of Ontario’s internationally trained lawyers
  • Client representation and access to justice for Indigenous and marginalized communities
