Regulatory excellence requires the consistent application of good practices – leading to resultant consistent outcomes – along with an organizational commitment to continuous improvement. All regulators need to be agile in responding to changes that are driven by external forces and events, but the truly excellent regulator is able to anticipate change and even drive change in order to better serve and protect the public interest.
This 1-day symposium will examine various ways by which regulators handle change management and endeavor to be proactive in carrying out the fundamental functions of professional and occupational regulation. Using a foundation of risk-based regulation, symposium participants will learn about progressive approaches to regulatory governance, communications (internal and external), entry-to-practice and enforcement (including the complaints and discipline process). Facing heightened critique from economists and often the media, it is important for regulators to be seen to be progressive and proactive – to be demonstrating that they are operating in the real world, regardless of limitations that may exist in their governing legislation.
Presentations will be accompanied with interactive sessions which will examine a range of attributes of proactive regulation, and answer questions from symposium participants.
